1968
Jaume Tres worked as an industrial technician at a factory dedicated to tapware (Metalúrgica Carnisser). In 1968, he conceived and designed a new type of tap for wine casks which prevented the liquid from foaming on the way out and also prevented mosquitoes from getting in. He patented the tap and installed it in a bodega in order to test its effectiveness.

At the same time, two of his sons, Santi and Daniel, who worked with him, set up a small mechanics workshop in Ordal, fitted with second-hand machinery (lathes, soldering irons and saws), where they would do small repairs and soldering for locals, as well as carrying out jobs for locksmiths.
1970

The two Tres brothers decided to leave Metalúrgica Carnisser and devote themselves fully to their small workshop, which saw an increase in orders each day. They encouraged their father to join them and they founded Altacruz, a workshop that provided parts to various tapware manufacturers and where they created the first taps for wine casks based on Jaume Tres’ initial invention.
1971
While still carrying out as many other orders as they could, they began to make and assemble wine taps in order to sell them. The first person to purchase the product was ironmonger Pere Puig from Ferretería Ustrell in Vilafranca del Penedès, who began selling the tap from his store to clients in the nearby regions, home to big wine producers.
1972

They soon realised that it was the sale of wine taps that provided them with the most profit, so they decided to dedicate themselves exclusively to their manufacture. As a result of hiring a renowned oenologist and striking up a deal with Ferretería Ustrell to become their distributor, their clients—with their growing needs and demands—were anxious for the Tres brothers to offer a wider range of products. Little by little, their efforts were acknowledged and they were rewarded with new buyers throughout the rest of Spain and France.
1975
Another of Jaume Tres’ sons, Joan Josep, also began to work in the workshop. In 1975, they added the manufacture of taps for use in kitchens and the healthcare sector to their business. As such, the company changed its name and became Grifería TRES.
1978

TRES released its first mixer tap to the Spanish market, the culmination of its tireless efforts in designing new mechanisms and products.
1979
Grifería TRES had already grown considerably and the three brothers agreed to share out among them the executive roles of the company. Santi became head of the commercial and administrative departments; Daniel took charge of new product development, the technical office and staff and supplier relations; and Joan Josep became production and factory manager. Their father, meanwhile, continued working tirelessly in the workshop. Jaume Tres, ever the inventor, never ceased to create patents and find innovative solutions for their clients’ needs.
1985

As the business continued to grow, one of its goals was to stop producing parts for its taps externally and to start manufacturing the entire product internally, and soon enough, the whole manufacture process was being completed in-house by Grifería TRES.
1993

TRES expanded its facilities and moved part of its production to Vallirana, very close to the company’s first factory in Ordal, where it boasted a factory and office complex with an area of over 35,000 m².
1994

Following the directives set out by Jaume Tres upon starting the company, TRES committed to meeting its clients’ needs and to contributing to a better society. In 1994, it launched a series of environmentally friendly mixer taps featuring a water flow regulator, allowing water savings of up to 50%, in addition to a cold water opening system which stops the boiler from being turned on unnecessarily, providing extra energy savings.
2011

The Tres Foundation was created as a testament to how a business and a businessman can give part of what they have received back to society by supporting local initiatives helping to improve the quality of life of those who are less fortunate and at risk of social exclusion, and these acts of generosity created value for both society and the company.
2016

The TRES Group grew with the acquisition of the Bnstar, a company that is responsible for carrying out all projects focused on new technologies.
